Wow! It's already term 3 and we're almost halfway through the school year. In literacy we will be learning about stories written by significant authors, with a focus on the fantastic story of The Iron Man by Ted Hughes. The story is written using lots of similes and metaphors which bring the characters and events to life. The children will be writing in the style of the author later this term.

Numeracy will be lots more work on place value and decimal numbers, including working with money. Measuring and weighing will be covered later on this term, so making cakes at home (with the children using the scales) would be a good idea. Finally, our focus times table will be the 7x table - lots of practise both in class.

We will be learning about Space in science - get ready for lots of difficult questions from the children as it's always a thought-provoking topic. Here are a few we have been asked already: Why don't we fall of the earth when we're in Australia? And what happens if we take off our spacesuits on the moon?

Here are a few more facts to find out and questions to ponder: Which planet was first spotted in Bath? And by whom? How close is the nearest star (apart from the sun) and what is its name? Is there really an infinite number of universes?

Other areas we will be learning about are:

Water, in geopgraphy.  We will cover where it comes from, how it is cleaned and the water cycle.

Our ICT topic is spreadsheets.  The children will learn how to use them to organise and display data.

Finally, can we please ask for your continued support in encouraging your child to read on a daily basis and record this in their reading record.  Regular reading has such a positive impact on children's learning and development.
