With the festive season approaching, many children may be looking forward to receiving new technology or games. This month’s update focuses heavily on keeping children safe on both new and current devices over the Christmas break.

Christmas Devices & Parental Controls Whether your child is receiving a new console, phone, or tablet, or using an existing one, we urge you to:

  • Set up Parental Controls: Ideally, do this before the device is wrapped or handed over. The newsletter contains direct links to setup guides for Xbox, PS5, Nintendo Switch, Apple, and Android devices.
  • Abide by Age Ratings: It is vital to check PEGI ratings for games and age requirements for apps. These limits are in place to protect children from inappropriate content and dangerous interactions.

Other topics covered this month include:

  • Roblox: A guide to the "Parental Guidance" label, managing chat features, and recent concerns about content.
  • AI Chatbots: The risks associated with AI companions (e.g., Character.AI) and why many are rated 18+.
  • Discord & Signal: Understanding why these communication apps have high age ratings (17+ and 13+) and the risks they pose.
