Blue Skies and Brave Strides: BANES Cross-Country Report

What a spectacular day for our runners! On Thursday, 19th March, the BANES Schools Cross-Country Meet took place under glorious sunshine at Somervale School. The "Big Field" was a vibrant scene of energy and anticipation as our team gathered, ready to tackle the course.

The Boys' Race: Pace and Perseverance

The boys kicked off the event with a display of pure grit. The competition was fierce, but our runners held their ground beautifully:

  • Ethan delivered a standout performance, navigating the terrain to secure an impressive 8th place finish overall.

  • Rheon, Jacob, Adam and Marcus followed closely, showing fantastic consistency and ensuring a strong presence for the school.

  • In one of the most moving moments of the day, Archie tackled the course in his off-road wheelchair. With the expert assistance of the ever-ready Mrs. Norman, he completed the first loop before finishing the race under his own steam. He was cheered every step of the way by a roaring crowd and his supportive teammates.

The Girls' Race: Power and Partnership

As the sun continued to shine, our girls took to the start line. Their race was a masterclass in both individual excellence and mutual support:

  • Harper-Rose was in flying form, blazing ahead of the pack to claim an incredible 4th place finish.

  • Clara and Tega, along with Eliza and Kiera, showed us the true meaning of "teamwork" by finishing in tandem. These pairs pushed each other through the toughest parts of the course, ensuring no one was left behind.

A Proud Day for the School

While we are still waiting for the final official team standings, the results on paper are only half the story. The sportsmanship, the encouragement offered to one another, and the sheer determination to finish strong made this a day to remember.

The Team: > Jacob, Marcus, Archie, Ethan, Adam, Rheon, Tega, Harper-Rose, Clara, Eliza, and Kiera.
