Expectations & Routines - Term 4
Routines - Term 4
PE is on Wednesday (Swimming) and Friday (Tennis). Children will need to wear their full PE kit to school on Fridays. This consists of: House T-shirt, Dark shorts and/or jogging bottoms, trainers and school jumper.
Please ensure full swimming kit is brought into school in a named bag on Wednesdays throughout term 4.
This should include a swimming costume/trunk, a towel, goggles and swimming hat.
Outdoor Learning will be on Tuesdays throughout Term 4. Children will need wellies in a named carrier bag as well as appropriate wet weather gear (waterproof coat and trousers). We advise that Outdoor Learning kit remains in school for the duration of the term as we may take advantage of other opportunities for outdoor learning within our timetable.
Homework
Homework will be set on a Monday and completed by Friday. Children should complete their work neatly (using a pencil) in their orange Homework books. This will consist of a main task linked to English, Maths or Foundation subjects, as well as a spelling activity related to our weekly rule.
Reading is crucial to every child's progress across the entire curriculum and we expect that every child reads to an adult at home at least 3 times a week. Please record this in their blue reading record and ensure it is brought to school every day.
Term 4 Update: Introduction of Weekly Times Tables Homework Task – Week beginning Monday 23rd February 2026
As you may be aware, Year 4 pupils will complete the Multiplication Tables Check (MTC) during the Summer Term. The MTC consists of 25 timed questions, testing pupils' recall of multiplication facts up to 12 x 12.
Therefore, to support children in learning their times tables, a weekly task will be introduced as part of homework. Children should practise the times table facts given to them by their class teacher in preparation for a quiz, each Friday. The facts covered each week will link directly to our daily learning in class, following the Mastering Number at KS2 programme. Children will also be given time to learn and revise these facts in school throughout the week.
Please speak to your child’s class teacher if you have any questions.
Online Apps
Children’s log-ins can be found on the inside their Reading Records. If you are having problems with these websites, please let us know as soon as possible.

Medication
If your child requires daily medication, you must inform the school office via phone or email; also inform the class teacher. You will be required to complete a form that gives permission and details of the times and dosage of the medication required.
Inhalers: Children will need to keep their inhaler in their school bag and be responsible for taking them on visits or to events. In each classroom there is a medical box and it is advised that the school keep an extra inhaler for your child in this box, for use in school. Please inform the office if your child has to use an asthma inhaler so we can record it on the pupil record and send a named and in-date inhaler to school to be kept in the medical box.
Allergies: Please inform the school immediately, if your child has an allergy to anything or if your child needs specific medication e.g. an epi-pen. Make sure that your child brings their epi-pen to school every day. It should be kept in a named bag and labelled with the instructions attached. Please supply a spare epi-pen to be kept at school for emergencies.
Uniform and Kit
All children are expected to wear the correct school uniform, daily. Only black school shoes, no trainers or ankle boots.
On P.E days, the children will wear their P.E kit to school, including House T-shirt. Only school jumpers should be worn with navy or black shorts, skorts or leggings and trainers.
Please ensure children bring in suitable wet weather gear, including wellies and waterproofs, on Outdoor Learning days.

Term 4 Learning
English:
In Term 4, Year 4 children will be reading Nour’s Secret Library by Wafa Tarnowska. As part of our learning, we will explore the author’s style of writing and create an additional scene with dialogue. Following this, we will identify the features of persuasive writing before creating a persuasive leaflet, persuading people to visit our very own library.
In addition, we will continue to develop our reading skills through regular Guided Reading sessions. We will introduce, explore and apply our new spelling rules and patterns, weekly.
Maths:
The bulk of this term’s work focuses on fractions. Pupils will recap unit and non-unit fractions, count up to and beyond one whole, and explore mixed numbers and equivalent fractions. They will then move on to adding and subtracting fractions. We will also consider and refine our problem-solving and reasoning skills within the context of fractions. Finally, we will progress to our learning of decimals.
Times tables are an important part of our mathematical teaching and learning throughout the whole of Year 4. Pupils will complete the National Multiplication Tables Check during the Summer Term. Please support times table learning and speedy recall of multiplication and division facts at home. We recommend regular use of Times Table Rockstars (TTR) app, including use of the Soundcheck feature.

Foundation:
In Science, we will be exploring Living Things and their Habitats. We will look at different habitats, how living things can be grouped and classified, and how they are suited and adapted to particular environments.
We will be learning all things Romans in History! We will look into Roman invasions as well as key dates and events linked to the Roman Empire. We will build on our skills by analysing historical sources and understanding how the Romans changed Britain.
In DT, we will be creating simple electrical circuits and investigating different types of switches before designing and making our own torches at the end of the term.
This term, in PE, we will be continuing to develop our swimming and tennis skills.
In PSHE, we will be learning about families, the changes we experience, both physically and emotionally, when growing up and where we come from.
RE will focus on how the actions and local communities of faith have changed our world.
We will be developing our understanding of how digital images can be changed and edited, and how they can be resaved and reused in Computing.
Within our Music lessons, we will be following the Charanga scheme and learning a soul/ gospel song by Bill Withers, ‘Lean on Me’.
What a fantastic term of learning! We cannot wait to get started!
