These Beautiful Things That We've Done: Year 6 conquer Skern Lodge

What an incredible week our Year 6 adventurers had at Skern Lodge in Appledore, Devon! From conquering towering challenges to mastering new skills, our pupils embraced every moment with enthusiasm, resilience, and an abundance of smiles.

The week was packed with exhilarating activities that pushed boundaries and built confidence. The High Ropes saw many of our students soaring through the air, demonstrating incredible bravery and support for one another. The Climb & Abseil activities were another testament to their courage, as they scaled walls and descended with grace and determination.

Archery skills were honed, with many budding Robin Hoods hitting bullseyes and showing impressive focus. The Tarka Bikes offered a fantastic way to explore the beautiful surroundings, and it was wonderful to see everyone enjoying the freedom of the open air.

One of the highlights for many was the Rafting! Teamwork was absolutely essential, and the cheers of triumph as the rafts navigated the water were truly infectious. Roars of laughter filled the air as teachers and children alike took the plunge into the icy depths. The Pool Kayak sessions were also a splash, with students quickly getting the hang of paddling and playing games.

Exploring the coastal wonders was a big part of the trip too. Crabbing was a huge hit, with many fascinating creatures discovered and carefully returned to their homes. The Seahorse Trail in Westward Ho! was a brilliant opportunity to learn about the local marine life and enjoy the stunning beach environment. And that’s just a snapshot – there were so many more exciting activities and challenges throughout the week!

We were so incredibly proud of the children's amazing achievements and attitudes. Their willingness to try new things, support their friends, and push their own limits was truly inspiring. They showed fantastic teamwork, excellent application, and a positive mindset that shone brightly every single day.

A massive thank you must go to the epic staff at Skern Lodge. Their expertise, encouragement, and boundless energy made every activity fun, safe, and unforgettable. They truly went above and beyond to ensure every single one of our students had the best possible experience.

Finally, we extend our heartfelt gratitude to the PJS teachers and support staff who gave up their time to make this residential trip possible. Your dedication, care, and commitment ensured a smooth, enjoyable, and incredibly enriching experience for every single Year 6 pupil. This trip wouldn't have been the same without you!

The memories and lessons learned at Skern Lodge will undoubtedly stay with our Year 6 students for a lifetime.
